Gute PR trotz Fake-News-Misstrauen
Eine Betrachtung der Entwicklung von Tageszeitungsauflagen in den letzten zehn Jahren treibt einem als Zeitungsliebhaber die Tränen in die Augen. Die Süddeutsche Zeitung ist von knapp 370.000 Exemplaren auf unter 300.000 Exemplare gesunken. Die FAZ sank im gleichen Zeitraum von 300.000 auf circa 200.000. Ähnlich erging ist der Welt oder dem Tagesspiegel. Einzig das Handelsblatt hat sich im Zeitraum der letzten zehn Jahre bei ungefähr 100.000 Exemplaren gehalten. Selbst das Boulevardblatt Bild sank in den letzten zehn Jahren von 3,5 Millionen Auflage auf heute knapp 1,4 Millionen. Bei den Magazinen bietet sich ein ähnliches Bild: der altehrwürdige Spiegel sank von 800.000 auf unter 500.000. Der Stern kommt von einer Auflage von 600.000 Exemplaren auf heute knapp 300.000. Und der Fokus sinkt von 400.000 auf heute knapp 200.000.
Für die PR sind in dieser Zeit neue Herausforderungen entstanden: wie erreiche ich meine Bestands-Kunden, wie erreiche ich neue Kunden? Wie halte ich mit den Stakeholdern Kontakt - der Politik, NGOs, den Journalisten oder der Wirtschaft? Wie positioniere ich mich als attraktiver Arbeitgeber und worüber vermittele ich mein Alleinstellungsmerkmal?
Eine Lösung sind die Sozialen Medien. Sie sind aus der PR nicht mehr wegzudenken. Das schwerwiegende Problem dabei: die so genannten Fake News verunsichern sämtliche Zielgruppen. Der Duden definiert Fake News als „vor allem im Internet und in Social Media in manipulative Absicht verbreitet Falschmeldungen“. Laut einer Befragung von Readly (7.500 Befragte), sind in Deutschland 56 % besorgt über Fake News. 40 % der Befragten denken, dass heutzutage keine Möglichkeit besteht sicherzustellen, ob eine Nachricht vertrauenswürdig oder eine Fake News ist.
2019 untersuchten Reuters und die Oxford University in ihrem Digital News Report, wie Bürgerinnen und Bürger in ausgewählten Ländern (Deutschland war nicht dabei) Social Media als News Kanal nutzen. Dabei kam heraus, dass etwa 50 % der Befragten Facebook als News Kanal in Anspruch nehmen, rund 30 % YouTube als Nachrichtenersatz schauen und etwa 20 % WhatsApp als Nachrichten–Quelle in Anspruch nehmen.
Wie können Kommunikationsverantwortliche in Unternehmen und Organisationen konstruktiv und glaubwürdig mit diesem offensichtlichen Konflikt umgehen?
In der Readly-Untersuchung nennen die Befragten vier Faktoren als vertrauensbildende Maßnahmen für Glaubwürdigkeit: Transparenz, Überprüfbarkeit der Fakten, die Berichterstattung in renommierten Medien und auf vertrauensvollen Plattformen.
Für Kommunikationsverantwortliche kann es hilfreich sein, zehn relevante Punkte für die PR und gegen Fake News zu beachten:
1. Kompetente MitarbeiterInnen
Bei der Auswahl der Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern im Kommunikationsprozess sollten im Vorfeld Qualifikation und Bedarf festgeschrieben sein, bevor die Positionen besetzt werden. Viel zu häufig wird hier nach dem so genannten Lustprinzip verfahren: Wer gerade Lust und Zeit hat, der soll die Kommunikation übernehmen.
2. Ausreichende Ressourcen
Gute Kommunikation kostet Geld. Sowohl für gute Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter als auch für unverzichtbare Instrumente. Viele Geschäftsleitungen geben diesem Punkt kaum Beachtung. Zu oft wird Verfahren nach dem Motto: „Ich habe doch Leute hierfür, die sollen das regeln im Rahmen ihrer Möglichkeiten“.
3. Moderne IT-Ausstattung
Gerade im Umfeld der digitalen Transformation sind technische Hilfsmittel von allergrößter Wichtigkeit. Neben einem guten Computer und Smartphone gehören professionelle Mikrofone, Schnitt-Programme und Video-Kameras mittlerweile zur Grundausstattung von Kommunikationsabteilungen. Ein großer Fehler, der passieren kann, ist sich mit rudimentären Mitteln im Internet darzustellen, so dass der Eindruck einer Telekolleg–Sendung der achtziger Jahre entsteht.
4. Rückendeckung der Vorgesetzten
Die meisten Kommunikationsverantwortlichen wissen: Fehler sind teuer. Aber im Umfeld der digitalen Transformation (wo häufig neue Wege, neue Instrumente ausprobiert werden müssen) bleiben Fehler nicht aus. Hier ist es enorm wichtig, dass Vorgesetzte ihren Kommunikationsleuten Rückendeckung geben.
5. Qualifikations-Programme für alle Beteiligten
Der technologische Fortschritt setzt viele alte Regeln außer Kraft. Die schnellen Innovationszyklen gelten auch in der Kommunikation. Hier ist es besonders wichtig, dass die Kommunikations-Mitarbeiterinnen und -Mitarbeiter in dem was sie machen geschult sind und sich sicher fühlen.
6. Förderliche Organisationskultur
Eine Organisationskultur, in der Veränderung gewollt und Fehlerkultur gelebt wird, fördert auch moderne Kommunikation. Besonders schwer haben es Kommunikationsabteilungen in konservativen und starren Organisationsformen, die Veränderung nicht begrüßen und agile Kommunikationsarbeit als Störenfried wahrnehmen.
7. Klare Zuständigkeiten
Eine der größten und schwierigsten Veränderungen in der PR seit Social Media sind die klaren Zuständigkeiten. Jede und jeder Angestellte kann natürlich von seinem persönlichen Account aus etwas über die Firma/Organisation posten. Nichts desto trotz sollte in einer ausführlichen Kommunikations-Guideline dieser Punkt kristallklar für alle erläutert werden.
8. Messbare Zielvorgaben
Welche Ziele möchte man mit der Kommunikationsarbeit erreichen? Und wie sind diese messbar? Hier sollten die Kommunikationsverantwortlichen mit der Geschäftsleitung gemeinsame Ziele finden, die realistisch und messbar sind.
9. Positive Fehlerkultur
Eine positive Fehlerkultur soll nicht heißen, bewusst Fehler in Kauf zu nehmen, vor allem wenn diese zu Fake News führen könnten. Inhaltliche und sachliche Fehler sind im Journalismus und in der PR unbedingt zu verhindern. Nichts desto trotz können überall wo Menschen arbeiten auch Fehler passieren. Der Umgang mit diesen Fehlern, wie es dazu kam und wie diese beim nächsten Mal verhindert werden können, bedarf konstruktiver Methoden. Die Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter, denen diese Fehler unterlaufen sind, sind meist selbst am meisten zerknirscht darüber. Gute Führungskräfte verharmlosen nicht die Auswirkungen der Fehler, bauen ihre Leute aber auf und motivieren Sie dazu, Fehler nicht zu wiederholen.
10. Kommunikations-Guidelines
Die Kommunikations-Guidelines sind elementarer Kern einer glaubwürdigen und professionellen PR-Arbeit. Sie beinhalten klassische Kommunikationsinstrumente sowie neue digitale Kommunikationsinstrumente. Eine Kommunikationsstrategie geht dabei von vier wesentlichen Teilstrategien aus:
a) In den „Kommunikationsprozessen“ sollte definiert werden, wer die Verantwortlichen sind, wer die Zielgruppen sind und wie die Publikations-Prozesse ablaufen.
b) Im Bereich „Policies“ sollte eine Social-Media-Policy ausführlich erläutert und transparent für alle sein. Außerdem sind Redaktions-Guidelines zu definieren und zu kommunizieren.
c) Im Bereich „Personen“ sollten Rollen geklärt, Trainings und Coachings definiert, die interne Kommunikation an alle erläutert, die Unternehmenskultur beschrieben und klare Budgets geklärt werden.
d) In den „Channels“ sind dann alle Kommunikationskanäle festzulegen, die Ziele zu benennen und zu beschreiben sowie die jeweiligen Botschaften festzulegen. Auch hier muss ein klares Budget bekannt sein, an dem sich die Beteiligten orientieren können.
